How I Blew My Last 16k on Brunch: A RSVP Lagos Review

Well, folks, it's that time of the month again. The food budget from eatdrinklagos is on its last legs, and I'm down to my last 16k. But hey, YOLO, right? So, in a bid to go out with a bang, I decided to find the one place where I could indulge myself before hanging up my foodie hat for the month.

Now, I've been writing non-stop for three weeks, and let me tell you, my stamina is not what it used to be. Note how I’ve completely disregarded our normal formatting for reviews? Well, that’s the fatigue at work

Anyway, my original brunch plan was to hit up Cafeteria, but apparently, we're all atheists in Lagos because this place was packed to the rafters on a Sunday before noon. Seriously, people, shouldn't you be in church?

But never fear, Nosa is nothing if not adaptable. So, I decided to head over to RSVP as my backup. Yes, you heard that right. With my measly 16k budget, I dared to venture into RSVP territory. Don't ask me what I was thinking. Maybe I was hoping they'd let me wash dishes in exchange for a meal. After all, my picture is practically on their ceiling.

The first thing that caught my eye was the steak and eggs for a whopping 48k. I nearly choked on my own saliva. The breakfast menu isn't exactly bursting with options. It's pretty lean, to be honest.

I ended up ordering the truffle scrambled eggs, a short stack, and a side of bacon. In my mind, it all added up. The truffle scrambled eggs were a revelation. The truffle flavor was so intense, it was like getting punched in the face. And the brioche it came with? Heavenly.

Now, let's talk about the bacon. Two measly strips for N2800. It's almost comical. Complaining about bacon at Lagos restaurants is what got me into this gig in the first place, and it's what keeps me going.

By the time I got to the pancakes, I was already stuffed. But, being the glutton that I am, I soldiered on. These pancakes were THICK. The short stack is just two pancakes, but they're probably the thickest pancakes you'll ever encounter. And they were delicious. A definite step up from the pancakes at The Room.

So, what's the verdict on RSVP's brunch? It's... okay. Not something I'd go out of my way to have again. The food was good, but the options were pretty safe, maybe even boring. Nothing really jumped out at me. It's not a bad place to eat, far from it. It's just not exciting. It's the kind of place I'd take a business associate if I wanted to play it safe. But if I was trying to make it up to my wife after falling asleep in my outside clothes? Nah, I'd pick somewhere else.

So there you have it, folks. Another day, another brunch. Stay tuned for more food adventures if my bosses remember to top up the account.

PS: The whole thing cost me a little over 18k. I almost made it.
